A little summer update…

I am on vacation and it really is awesome not checking email that often or even having internet access at all! But blogging is fun, specially when good news arrive. so:

Highlights:

  • Evan, always working hard, has cooked up the new SpreadUbuntu site based on Drupal6. It is already up, although it’s still alpha. We still have lots of trouble with the multilingual interface, localization and other features. SO if you know Drupal by heart or know some PHP and want to help create the Home of the Ubuntu Marketing Community this is your chance! Contact Evan and/or me for more info.
  • Cuba Libre and Caipirinha are the bomb!
  • The more direct, in the edge to be rude, you are the more female attention you’ll get. Trust me, it really is true!
  • Spotify will make you a better person. Wine + Wine-doors are just great! Anything else is not true!

Do-not-forgets:

  • My main computer harddisk went to hell (Thanks Karmic!) and now I have lost all encryption keys, pictures, writings, code and lots of other digital stuff. I will be looking into that next week; hopefully I can rescue some of that data. Reminder to self: BACKUP! And lazyweb: any software tools to get my data back (ext3 running karmic)?
  • Identification papers are to be kept up-to-date. It doesn’t help that you can prove that your name is your name and your age your age, the expiration date it’s important too. At least if your need the document to be valid be it an ID card, Passport or any other identification item. Note to self: Get a grip, because Oslo is summer nice, but travelling away is (or can be) even cooler!

Have a great day!

  1. “any software tools to get my data back (ext3 running karmic)?”

It would help if you explained what exactly happened.

    • Thanks for pointing it out. What happened is that I shut down my computer. tried to start it again. Didn’t work… And the HDD makes a funny sound.

My solution is basically to put the Live CD and try to get the HDD recognized. I haven’t had the time. I just plugged another HDD with a system and will try fixing it next week.

I am asking in case that mounting the HDD is not an option, but I still have access to it thorugh BIOS recognition of it. What kind of tools can then be used to access the data in an ext3 formatted HDD and extract it somewhere else?

  2. Mibbit is no longer allowed on Freenode, so the chat on SpreadUbuntu won’t work. It should probably be replaced by a widget of http://webchat.freenode.net/.
